Baseball is not going to expand Charlotte's only hope is that the Marlins or Devil Rays move and you get one of those teams. How about this I have heard of Cities doing this building a kick ass AAA ballpark with future plans to renovate it later to add more seats and become a major league park. It is real simple and that would take care of 2 birds with 1 stone you got your park and if a major league team wants to move you can put together a plan showing how you would renovate your park to make it major league compatable.
If Charlotte goes ahead with the plans as is, it's unlike that it will draw a Major League team in the future. I think Charlotte definitely move for a Major League team. Baseball is huge in this area and this area would be much more receptive to this than to the NBA's Bobcats, even with Jordan as part owner. They are still under that expansion tag but nonetheless. Move for the Bigs. I'd come watch.
Charlotte is never going to get a MLB team, and if so the team is going to suck so bad no one will come watch them. I think they need to provide the best AAA experience they can and enjoy that.
I'm all for an MLB team here, but it needs an owner who is willing to spend money. The reason the Devil Rays are perpetually in last place is because the owner is a cheapskate: he doesn't pay for players and he pockets the revenue sharing money he gets from teams like the Yankees, Red Sox, Dodgers, and Cubs. And that's wrong. So if they sell the 'rays or the Marlins to a group here in Charlotte who will put out a better team, then great. I'd love to have major league baseball in Charlotte...preferrably an AL team so I can see my Yankees come to town
The city of Charlotte shouldn't do anything. If a team wants to come to Charlotte, they can pay for the land/stadium. Shouldn't be up to the taxpayers to prop up sports venues.
